Emergency Medical Services

The Medical Center of Central Georgia Emergency Medical Services is among the best in the State.  While the exact date that The Medical Center EMS began is not know, an article from The Macon Telegraph and News, circa 1900, states, “ambulance responded from the City Hospital .”  Ambulances of the period were horse drawn and carried two patients on wooden military type stretchers.

Today, the EMS has a fleet of 20 ambulances and three critical care, neonatal/pediatric transport units.  The Medical Center EMS primarily provides service to three counties (Bibb, Jones and Twiggs).  These three counties makeup a 750 square mile area that the Medical Center is responsible for covering.  We are the only EMS service in Central Georgia that has the ability to acquire and transmit a 12 lead EKG for cardiac patients to The Medical Center Chest Pain Center.

In addition to the emergency medical services, the following special services are provided by The Medical Center EMS.

  • “Andy”, a motorized 4 foot tall toy ambulance for EMS public education children’s programs.
  • Neonatal and Pediatric mobile intensive care units with a coverage area including all of Central and South Georgia .
  • Neonatal and Pediatric intensive care team with a coverage area including all of Central and South Georgia .
  • Special emergency coverage for public events, such as football games and other sporting events, health fairs, job fairs and church functions.

A TDD machine is available for hearing impaired patients to access emergency medical services.
