Oncology Unit: 40 bed
inpatient unit, coordinated primary nursing care that
emphasizes patient education with a multidisciplinary
approach.
Outreach Program: Community
Education with speakers and audiovisual presentations for
schools, civic and community groups. Focuses on early
detection and prevention of cancer.
Clinical Trials: The Cancer
Life Center participates in cancer research by providing
National Cancer Institute (NCI) approved oncology clinical
trials with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG).
We are affiliated with the Vanderbilt University Department
of Medical Oncology. Clinical trials are reviewed monthly by
The Medical Center of Central Georgia's Institutional Review
Board.
Tumor Registry:
Certified by the American College of Surgeons.
Tumor Conference:
A multidisciplinary patient-focused team meets weekly for
the purpose of discussing pretreatment, evaluation, problem
solving, staging and treatment strategies for cancer
patients. These conferences are attended by: general
surgeons, medical/surgical oncologists, pathologists,
radiologists, nursing services and other disciplines.
Oncology Service Committee:
Meets quarterly to give direction and support for planning,
initiating, coordinating and evaluating all aspects of
cancer care.
