New Electronic Communication Network - July 15, 2008

Central Georgia Health Network is proud to announce the launch of its new electronic communication network, the CENTRAL GEORGIA HEALTH EXCHANGE.

Over 450 doctors will convert to electronic medical records by July 1, 2009 with over 120 having already made the change. These physicians will communicate with each other through an electronic hub (Health Exchange).  The Health Exchange will contain an abbreviated medical record with vital information that could save lives in emergencies and will also enable physicians to exchange detailed information.  The results will be improved care, reduction of medical errors and potential significant medical expense savings for the community.  The Health Exchange became operational on June 23, 2008.

The Health Exchange is among the first of its kind in Georgia and one of only a handful in the country.  It is one of the only health exchanges financed totally by physician practices.  Physicians who are members of the Central Georgia Health Network are spearheading this innovative project where the primary focus will be improved patient care.  The Health Exchange will also use nationally recognized standards to monitor the quality of care delivered by participating physicians.  This feedback to the participating physicians will provide them with a vital tool to improve the quality of care for their patients.  The patients will also benefit by receiving improved quality of care, improved health maintenance alerts, reduced medical expenses and reduced paperwork in participating physicians’ offices.

Central Georgia Health Network is a partnership between over 450 local physicians and The Medical Center of Central Georgia with an emphasis on ensuring the highest quality of care for patients in the Central Georgia area and making improvements as needed.  The vendor for the Health Exchange and the majority of electronic medical records in the doctors’ offices is eClinicalWorks of Westborough MA, one of the leaders in electronic ambulatory medical systems with an established client base of over 3,200 customers across all 50 states. eClinicalWorks has received multiple honors and awards for its electronic medical record offerings.
