The Chaplains in the Pastoral Care Department are available to provide and coordinate pastoral care services for patients and their families throughout The Medical Center of Central Georgia. Chaplains are part of the healthcare team that provides pastoral and spiritual intervention in the medical setting. Caring for the spiritual needs of patients is an integral part of total patient care. Therefore, chaplains encourage patients and families in times of crisis to draw upon their faith for healing, peace and comfort.
The services offered by Pastoral Care include, but are not limited to: pastoral counseling, crisis ministry, sacramental ministry, consultation, education, and support groups. These services are not restricted to patients only, but our services are offered to outpatients, staff and to the local community at large.
The Pastoral Care team includes four full-time chaplains and 5 part time chaplains, who are also available by appointment to provide consultation and supportive counseling for staff during office hours. Furthermore, there are 6 intern chaplains who are part of the team and make pastoral care visits to their assigned units weekly.
Patient referrals may be made through the Pastoral Care Office or directly with one of the chaplains. Continuing care nurses, nurse managers, physicians, etc., can make referrals to chaplains. If a nurse has a patient that he or she would like for the chaplain to visit, he or she can page the on-call chaplain at pager # 1942. The Pastoral Care Department strives to provide emotional and spiritual support 24hours daily. Therefore, a chaplain is always available at any time for our patients, families, or staff.
