Practicum Information

Student ResourcesThe Mercer University School of Medicine Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to develop the clinical skills required for the profession in a controlled environment. Clinical practicum is confined to the Medical Center of Central Georgia. At this single site, the students will have the opportunity to obtain clinical experience in Regional and General anesthetics related to the complete scope of surgical and non-surgical intervention. The complex consists of a Children's Hospital, an Obstetric Wing, a self-contained Ambulatory Surgery Center and an extensive invasive radiology department.

Anatomy is provided at the Medical School by two exceptional Anatomists. The cadaver lab provides a challenge in applying the classroom instruction to an understanding of human anatomy. The anesthesia anatomy course focusing on components related to the performance of anesthesia and provide an exceptional foundation for the student's general and regional anesthesia experience.

Two resource libraries are accessible for the anesthesia students. The Medical School Library and the Medical Center Resource Library offer a wide selection of information that is anesthesia related. Both libraries are utilized in the support of the student's research, their journal club presentations and in preparation for their becoming critical consumers of current research.
