The
newly renovated Emergency Center provides care for approximately
65,000 patients annually. Our three-phased renovation was completed on
November 20, 2004 and expanded the Emergency Center from 29 beds to 42
beds. The number of patients seeking emergency care continues to climb
on a yearly basis, and the additional beds have helped our department
to work towards meeting these demands.
Our
new space was designed to allow us to care for patients through the
continuum of life (birth-death). Our newly renovated patient rooms now
are much larger in size and each room has a television and telephone
for the benefit of our customers. These comforts are in addition to
the state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and medical supplies that
are used to provide quality patient care. We have an area designed to
care for the pediatric patient with rocking chairs, bright colors, and
even a Child Life Specialist. There is an area where we care for
patients with a minor injury or illness. The two areas in the main
Emergency Department we use to care for the patients with a more
serious injury or illness. We have yet another area designed to care
for the trauma patient.
In
1998, we received the designation as a Level One Trauma Center. As a
matter of fact, we are the only Level One Trauma facility in the
Central Georgia region, and are one of only four in the state of
Georgia. So we stay ready. We are fully aware that serious traumas may
strike at any time. We have surgeons available 24 hours a day to meet
the critical trauma patient on their arrival allowing us to initiate
treatment quickly and efficiently during the critical first hours
after an accident.
Even
though we are now in a new facility with new rooms we still are very
busy and crowded. Everyday the staff of the Emergency Center is
looking at new ways to improve the care we give to Central Georgia.
